Description: A soapstone oil lamp from the Quarry of the 7 Flowers, North China 1890-1910. These lamps were often kept lit most of the time so fire would be readily available. The wick comes out the spout and the well filled with oil. This small lamp would last for about 4 hours. there is a chip on one petal of the carved flower. Imagine decorating such a prosaic utilitarian item.
