Description:
A great piece of United States Postal Service history, Americana, and Florida history as well. This desk set is made of Walnut, measures 14 1/2" wide by 7" deep and is in great condition, still solid with no damage. The felt lining on the bottom shows signs of age, small portions missing. The two fountain pens are Signature brand, 14k Gold Plate #8's, gold trimmed and gold embossed "THE POSTMASTER", also in great conditinon. The metal plaque has printed photos of the 32nd United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt (served 1933-1945) on one side, and the 50th United States Postmaster General James A. Farley (served 1932-1940). In the center of the plaque is the Pony Express logo and "80th Anniversary The Pony Express 1940". This set belonged to Kirby L. Sandlin, Postmaster at Jasper, Florida and is embossed so.
