Item Description:
This is a beautiful antique English walnut Art Deco curio cabinet. It has a distinguished shape inherent of its style. It features a shaped top surface with a lovely backsplash and it includes 3 cabinets. 2 cabinets on the sides have beautiful *astragal wood glazed glass doors with a total of 6 shelves, 4 of glass removable, and they have elegant lined backs with a beige fabric, and on the center there is an additional mahogany cabinet that has 3 shelves with a very attractive shaped door. All doors have lock mechanism with 1 key present. One of the glass shelves has a very small chip but it is easily overlooked and one of the glass panels is cracked but it is not distracting at all and can be repaired if necessary, otherwise this piece is overall in very good cosmetic and structural condition and it is strong and sturdy. This is an outstanding piece of furniture that will be cherished at home for many years.
What is astragal (wood or lead) glazing? As it pertains to later period furniture, it is a method of securing glass to the straight, semi-circular, or shaped moldings found on glass doors and windows of furniture. On newer reproduction furniture, the astragal molding may set atop the glass to give the appearance of glazing where on older English furniture, it is not uncommon for each piece of glass to be cut to shape and glazed into the molding.
