Description: Antique French Trumeau with Oil on Canvas Painting in the Early Louis XV Style H=85, W=41 Good Condition –Craquelure to Painting – Creasing of Canvas in spots. Late 1800’s. This beautiful antique painted trumeau from France was probably part of a painted, wooden paneled room (boiserie). The ornamentation is scrolling acanthus leaves, a stylized shell and beading of two sizes. The painting probably had gimp surrounding its border at one time due to the curling at the edges. The painting depicts a floral bouquet in a vase with an open book of music in front of it. To the right on the table is what we think may be a flute, however, it’s up to the imagination. The colors in the painting and the manner in which the artist used them, illuminate the scene. It is bright and fresh! With the white of the paint on the frame, it is a stunning trumeau.
