Description:
This wonderful drop-front/slant-front secretary is so beautiful and has so many possible uses.
If you love the beauty of primitive pieces, you will really love this one. Plus it has massive functionality!
First off, I am not sure of the type of wood. My initial thought was pine based on the look, but when you lift this item, you change your mind. This thing is HEAVY. So it must be some type of hard wood. This thing is SOLID!!
This secretary is a desktop or tabletop secretary. It has lovely curved rails on the top. There is some decorative molding just under the top surface. The side and the front inserts are a raised panel. The desk is opened with a nice bin pull and reveals the inside which has multiple cubbies and a leather covered writing surface. The bottom is open to the surface on which it will sit. The back is made from old 1/4" thick joined hard wood flooring pieces.
I imagine this was in an old farm house or used as a storekeepers work area. Circa late 1800's.
Dimensions: Total height = 26.75", 20.25 from base to top surface (minus the decorative edges), 24" wide, 13.5" deep at base and 10.75" deep at top of cavity, desk protrudes 16.5" when open. Top surface measures 20.25" wide and 10.75 deep between the edges.
Condition: Beautiful and lovely primitive. Please see photos.
