Description:
A BAROQUE PUTTI, CHERUB. CARVED WOOD & POLYCHROME & GILT ca1700 VIENNA. ANGEL
This came from a sale I was recently at in Vienna. It's an absolutely beautiful baroque period piece of museum quality in superb condition. The master carver has been at work here and this Putti had the honor of belonging to an aristocratic Austrian Family, probably in a chapel or house altar. (I will supply family name to buyer) The painting work is also finely achieved with flesh colour (on gesso underlay) royal burgundy and gold gilding being the major colours. The wings are firmly attached using two metal dowels that are very hard to see and are well into the back of the wing and are rusted a little. Besides his age and quality he is still a very charming little musical fellow floating playing a lute while singing... and his little mouth is wide open like a choir boy. A lovely piece. Offers and requests for additional pics are most welcome. My email address is below. Please see my other items in my inventory for more old carvings
