Description: This is a classic Dogon horseman with some wear on the base so it needs a stand to support it upright, but otherwise it is very good condition for its age. The 400 thousand strong Dogon tribe in Mali and Burkina Faso are cliff dwellers in the cliffs of Bandiagara. They are broken up into many groups speaking as many as 120 dialects. Their art is about as diverse but all show similarities. Very often their figures and masks are simplistic but very powerful. Dogon art is one of the most appreciated of West African art forms. They are well known for their iron and bronze smithing.
