Description:
This wonderful French 3 piece mantle clock set was made by the highly regarded L. Marti et Co. Each piece is made of polished marble and highlighted with brass castings. The eight-day clock has a porcelain dial. The original works are of exceptional quality and is in excellent working condition. The clock strikes the hour and half hour and has its original pendulum. The clock case has an architectural form, which mimics a Greek building - complete with a frieze displaying classical figures set atop 6 Doric columns. The clock case is in excellent condition with no chips or breaks. The marble case measures 16.5" wide, 6" deep and 11.25" tall. The urn shaped garnitures are meant to rest on either side of the clock. Often times these become lost, broken or sold separately. It's a treat when you find an intact set such as this. Each urn measures 13" tall by 4.5" wide and 4" deep. The detailing and styling of the marble urns is exceptional. Notice the brass beading along the top of the urn with the ornately ebonized cast brass handles and pedestal. The main body of the urns is polished marble. The urns rests on a marble base, which repeats the Greek architectural details found in the clock case. The urns are in excellent original condition. There is a very tiny chip (.25") on the back right corner of one urn. This is only visible upon close inspection. This handsome set would make a statement in any home.
