Description: This Chinese kitchen cabinet is composed of two pieces. The bottom section is an enclosed cabinet with one shelf plus a drawer. The upper section has open fretwork on the front, open bars on the sides, and two shelves. The center rectangle on the front of the upper section has a glass pane, but may originally have held a mirror.

This cabinet would originally been used in a kitchen for storage. The open fretwork and bars of the top section would have provided ventilated but secure storage, similar to an American ""pie safe"".

The original mirror is a curious addition. It may have been indicative of the importance of this piece of furniture in a household that had limited other furniture.

The fretwork is interspersed with coin symbols and Buddhist auspicious symbols. These were invoked to bring abundance to the family's pantry.
