“The Spratling of Peru” …
Florentine-born, Graziella Laffi lived and worked in Peru during the 1950’s, producing singular and stunning silver pieces in both modern and pre-Columbian forms. Most aficionados believe that her creations rival the masterworks that came out of Mexico. She is one of today’s hottest collectibles in the field.
This extraordinary open cuff bracelet by Laffi is both a rare and rarified find! The deeply convex piece is hand hammered, with three sterling silver Inca faces—a large one in the center and two smaller ones at each end—surmounted to the hammered band. At once modernist and primitive, the fiercely expressive design of the faces has been masterfully hand tooled and incised, the detail superbly enhanced by rich oxidizing. Graziella Laffi bracelets are quite uncommon, her cuffs even more difficult to find. This exceptional work makes a fabulous piece of wearable art, as well as a valuable addition to any collection.
Hallmarks: PERU, LAFFI, 925. Dimensions: Inside circumference measures 7”, including the 1” back opening. The cuff is 1-1/8” at its tallest point, narrowing to 3/8” at the terminals. Weight: 43.4 grams. Condition: Dating from the 1950’s, it is in fine vintage condition.
