Description: SPENCER MICROSCOPE - Spencer had been making microscopes since 1838, mostly in the western New York towns of Canestota, Geneva and Buffalo until it became the American Optical Co in 1935. With all three objective lenses that are marked “Spencer Lens Co.” , this microscope dates to the period between 1895 and 1935. In addition, the lenses are marked with serial numbers and sizes: “44475 16mm N.A. 0.25”; “44250 4mm N.A. 0.75”; and “45077 1.6mm N.A. 1.25”. Also, there is a substage condensing lens with two adjustable diaphragms and vertical focusing. The microscope is constructed from iron, brass and other metals.
