Description:
This is a really neat old Halloween die cut decoration. I have not been able to find a single comp. so I cannot verify year and manufacturer.
Features a menacing-looking black cat with green, stylized, beady eyes glaring at the somewhat jovial Jack-O-Lantern (JOL). There is silver paint behind the cat and outlining the whole piece. Notice, there is silver coloring missing between his legs, interesting. There is a punched hanging hole at the top.
The two major manufacturers of paper die cuts in the USA during the 1920-1940s, were The Beistle Co. of Shippensburg, PA and Dennison of Framingham, MA. This one is not marked, but looks very similar in style to those from these makers of that era.
Dimensions: 6" wide x 5" tall.
Year: This piece is likely from the 1940s/1950s era, before the introduction of glossy paper, two-sided printing, and Day-Glo inks. Additionally, it is from the same estate as the other two Halloween die cuts I have are from.
Condition: Excellent except for one spot where paint is rubbed off. Just to the left of the JOL eye on the edge.
