Description:
Attributable to Peruvian modernist maestra G. Laffi ... Without a doubt, this piece is an alternate enamel color version of a Graziella Laffi brooch. {The original Laffi brooch has a mottled pale turquoise enamel eye and mottled green tail.} Nevertheless, the stylized bird motif, singular modernist design, and superb silver- and enamelwork are quite typical of the artist. But in fair conscience, I cannot say for sure that this piece was actually executed by her, since the hallmark is not her usual. It could be a faithful interpretation done by an expert artisan. It cannot be argued, however, that this is an exceptional work, with elegant lines, curved kinetic form, and marvelous enameling in vibrant shades of red, green, white, blue, and black. Hallmarks: PERU, 925, GML. Size: 1-3/4" wide x 1-1/2" tall. Condition: Fine vintage condition, with only some age-appropriate surface scratches on the silver and enamel.
